Scoring Description
  • The scoring system will follow the traditional March Madness approach with an additional bonus awarded for first round upset picks.
  • 1 point is awarded for each correctly chosen first round pick, 2 for each second round pick, 4 for the third, 8 for each regional final, 12 for each Final Four semi-final game and 24 for the championship.
  • Each correctly chosen first round upset awards a weighted bonus based on the degree of the upset.  The weighted bonus divides the under seeded value by 16. Each upset bonus is worth at least a half point per game.  For example, if the number 16 seed beats the number 1 seed, the upset bonus is calculated as 16/16 or 1 point, whereas, if the number 9 seed beats the number 8 seed then the upset bonus is .56 (9/16).  Thus, a less significant upset awards a smaller bonus
  • An over under total final score will be used as the tie-breaker, if necessary. Winner is determined by who predicts closer to the total (combined) points scored in the final by both teams without being under the actual total.  In other words, if the actual total is 150 and two participants who are tied predict 149 and 152, the individual who chose 152 wins the tie-breaker (even though the other was technically closer to the actual number).
Commissioner
  • There is no commissioner's fee for this pool. The commissioner does wish to participate, but should he happen to win anything, the award will also be donated to the Education Fund.  The commissioners picks will also be posted by the start of tournament play
