What's Going On

•  Homecoming 99
  George's

Alumni vs Actives Softball Game
  Tailgate BBQ and Football Game

Ranch Party
•  Help Support Texas Rho
•  Campaign For The Balance Man
Well, you may have received information about the upcoming Homecoming activities, but most of the discussion has been kept among the Listserve.  This email is intended to try and insure as many of our alumni are aware of the happenings this weekend in Waco as well as mention some other relevant alumni related news and events.
Homecoming 99

vs Colorado Buffaloes

The actives appear to be going all-out this year to make sure this years Homecoming experience is a good one.

Friday, November 12
GEORGE's
As always,  brothers are planning to meet Friday night at George's to catch up on old times.  If you're one of the early revelers, try and claim a few tables.

"Will you not, as a loyal patron of dear old George's, lay aside for a few day the usual sobriety of life, come back to your Casa de Cerveza, renew former inebriations and friendships, and catch the Big-O buzz again?"

-George's Proprietor Sammy Citrano, 1999 -via Chad Carlson ('91)

Saturday, November 12
ALUMNI vs ACTIVES Softball Game
The actives have challenged the alumni to a softball tournament early Saturday morning. Kyle Cronan (254) 714-2345.  The game is at 10am at Brookland Park? Off orchard lane, across the river and down the street from the HOLIDAY INN.  Cronan will have a map at george's friday night.
I believe a significant amount of beer money is on the table with this challenge and the trash talking has been ever present.

Bears vs Buffs
The SigEp tailgate is located at the usual place.  Next to the practice field, behind the visitors section.  There is always a large SigEp flag that flies over our tent.  We tailgate away from the other Baylor organization and usually have the largest attendance.  The actives mentioned Vitek's BBQ for catering so bring your appetite and a contribution to help cover their costs.  If you have any questions, please contact Connor Sheehan (254) 759-0067.

Ranch Party
A band has been hired, Casey Kelly, so plan to attend if you remain in town.   I imagine the
activities will begin somewhere around nine.   T-Shirts are also available for this party and can be ordered through Aaron Stephenson (254) 299-7552.

Help Support Texas Rho

The alumni have done a really good job this year of contributing to the chapter.   One of the goals of the alumni board this year is to raise enough funds to allow our national chapter Education Fund to become eligible for participation in the National Investment Pool.  The balance in order for this fund to become eligible must be a minimum of $2500.

Through our collections at the Spring Alumni Golf Tournament, the March Madness Pool, Fall Golf Tournament proceeds (extra thanks to Eric Fisher, '80 for getting that together) and other miscellaneous contributions, we should have enough money to deposit in our National Education Fund Account to obtain Investment Pool eligibility.

We feel it is very important that those who have made contributions are recognized so that your generosity and support do not go unnoticed.  There is also a recognition area on the SigEp web site.  Thanks to the following alumni for monetary contributions made year-to-date:

1999 Texas Rho Honor Roll

Jim Beam ('87)    David Dooley ('86)
Jeremy McKinnis ('92)   Mark Lynn ('94)
Collins Deloach ('91)    Marshal McSpadden ('95)
David Newberry ('91)    Will Stokes ('87)
Ryan Tevis ('92)   Mark Brooks ('91)
Mike Gary ('90)   David Curtis ('90)
Bill Withrow ('89)     Jason Petermeier ('94)
Brian Hobbs ('92)    Greg Nelson ('92)
Bart Behrhorst ('89)    Chris Frizzell ('90)
Jeff Williams ('90)

Unfortunately this list does include those who participated in the Fall Golf Tournament of which a portion of the entry fee goes to help support the chapter.

Campaign For The Balanced Man

Today's reality is... Sigma Phi Epsilon is the preeminent fraternity in the country according to its peers.  This is a tribute to the undergraduates today and to alumni who created this outstanding legacy.   The other reality is... our Texas Rho chapter is lagging in endowment support behind many of the other fraternities present on the Baylor campus.  The Campaign for the Balanced Man is our response, so that we have the strength in the future to assist our undergraduate chapter with scholarship and leadership support.  Demands on undergraduates finances are beginning to far exceed their resources.  If someone looks at Sigma Phi Epsilon's most successful chapters over time, it is clear that alumni financial and volunteer support has been a key success factor.    Your investment adds strength to our chapter... strength that is directed to the development of the individual Brother.   Our Texas Rho chapter is going to be strong in the future because alumni giving on a regular, unrestricted basis will provide the resources to meet the needs of the undergraduate actives.  When you invest in Sigma Phi Epsilon you create a legacy that continues the value you received.  With broad support from its alumni, Sigma Phi Epsilon will continue to provide a first class experience in an ever-more challenging world.   If alumni invest in Sigma Phi Epsilon to help build long term resources, our young Brothers will have the tools they need to continue our Fraternity's great record of leadership.

Help endow the Texas Rho Balanced Man Scholarship.  The key to a chapter running this program effectively starts with having the money to offer the scholarship.  All gifts given to the 'restricted' Texas Rho Educational Foundation fund will be acknowledged in the Texas Rho Newsletter and on the web site and receipted to you for tax purposes.  This endowment is initially restricted to fund the Balanced Man Scholarship.  Rush continues to grow increasingly competitive among the many fraternities on Baylor's campus and ensuring the consistent implementation of the Balanced Man Scholarship gives our undergraduate chapter a greater presence and an advantage in recruiting while providing a positive program even our Baylor constituents support. As the fund grows, the annual income will also provide other scholarships for our undergraduate members and for educational or leadership programs.   The larger our fund grows the more we will have each year for these programs.   This is why your participation is so important.

Back in 1995, our Conclave saw the passing of legislative action which encouraged chapters to develop a plan with its alumni to establish a $50,000 scholarship fund, restricted for its educational programs.  This may seem like a lofty goal to a few of you, but we are quickly becoming a mature membership (with close to 650 alumni) that has the power to easily make this goal attainable.  Your participation is the most important thing...  so please participate by pledging any amount.  Brothers helping Brothers is what sets Texas Rho's Educational Foundation apart from the wide array of options you face in charitable giving.

Thanks for your support,
The SigEp Alumni Board of Texas Rho
