President's Perspective:

Brothers: This semester should prove to be another great semester for Tx Rho. Coming off an outstanding Spring recruitment, we followed with four fall pledges.  These men are all athletes, and their cumulative G.P.A. is a 2.9.  As always we will continue to tailgate next to the practice field at the stadium before every home game.  We tend to draw a large crowd, and there is always plenty of bar-b-que and beverages for anyone who wants to join us.  Our area is always marked with a SigEp flag, a huge trailer cooker, and a drunk monkey named A.J. Chiniara.

Michael Osborne and Cody Minchew have made sure that this semester will be fun for all of us. Margaritaville was a success and Santa Fe Saturday and Eggnog and Mistletoe are planned to go off without a hitch.  This year our formal is in San Antonio.  If any San Antonio alums would like to join us for dinner on the Riverwalk, we would enjoy the company.  We are currently in first place in our bracket for intramurals.  It is still early, but we hope to hold our position.

Michael Cole and Lance Leischman are in charge of this semesters pledge class.  They have a good pledge program in line and will introduce these new members to our fraternity in the proper manner.

We won both service awards at last semesters Greek banquet: The Abner McCall Service Award for most man hours and the Fletcher Communications Service award for best service project (which included a $1,000 check to the fraternity) which allowed us to go on retreat after nationals dumped a bunch more bills on us.  The Fletcher Award was given based on our work with the Waco Boys and Girls Club conducting a reading program accompanied by fraternity sponsored pizza parties.

Ty Sheehan has continued his excellent work with recruitment.  He brought us four Fall pledges, and we have the largest rush base for Spring in years.  We are looking to take between 25 to 30 men, some of them
Baylor varsity athletes.  We are also starting to see Tx. Rho legacies coming through formal rush.  As we all know, Recruitment is the lifeblood of our fraternity.  If you have any contact information of a current freshman that would make a good SigEp please contact Ty.

Having a good  alumni base the key to any successful fraternity.  As actives we want and encourage as much alumni participation as possible.  If you want to be more involved with the fraternity please give me a call, we need as much involvement as possible.

Connor Sheehan

Brothers: I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families all the best as we head into the last few months of this year.  I suspect that you, like myself, find yourselves rushing through the year with too little time to allocate between work and all that is dear to heart.

The alumni and active brothers that I have worked with over the past year consistently echo this press for time.   Yet, I am happy to report that the alumni brothers involved with the board continue to slug it out and make contributions to the chapter.

Several alumni brothers have had the opportunity to meet twice with the entire chapter.  The first of these meetings was a membership retreat set-up to review chapter plans and goals for the 2000/2001 school year.  I would like to extend a big thanks to Mark Brooks for setting this up and to Chris Jones, Boone Atkins, Clint Osteen, Jon Lund, Danny Weir, Brad Burnfield, and Roger Davis for helping facilitate. Clint Osteen and I also took the opportunity to attend a chapter meeting and continue the support.

In these meetings it was encouraging to find a sharp and energetic executive board leading a strong group of men.  The undergraduate men also continue to express gratitude for the alumni support and look for more.

With these recent wins in mind, I would suggest to you, that we as Texas RHO can do better.  There are several initiatives in motion, which can improve our alumni involvement and help enrich the Sig Ep experience for our undergraduate brothers.

Please feel free to lend your support to any of the activities above or just drop words of encouragement to the undergraduates through the executive board, list serve, or alumni board.

Finally, I wanted to extend my personal thanks to Chris Jones and Mike Gary for their consistent and energetic help over the past two years.

Again, best wishes to you and your families.
HFF,
David S. Newberry, Alumni Board President
