Alumni Brothers-In-Motion David (Dr. Unk) Curtis: The Fulbright Program, established in 1946 is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries. Fellows are chosen for their academic or professional achievement and because they have demonstrated unusual leadership potential in their fields. Fulbright alumni include Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners, governors and senators, ambassadors and artists, prime ministers and heads of state, professors and scientists, Supreme Court Justices and CEOs. Among them are Craig Barrett, president and CEO of INTEL; John Lithgow, actor; U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan; and now, David Curtis. David has earned his B.A. at Baylor University, his M.A. at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. through the University of Houston. While this program is sponsored by the Federal Government and private organizations, it is a clear example of one way in which donated funds can prove to be very beneficial for scholastic pursuits. Scholastic scholarships enable people to focus on studies, or pursue opportunities that might not have otherwise been available to them. This is just another reason why the Winn Foundation Scholarship is so important to the growth and development of our beloved fraternity. [Thanks to Jeff Williams ('90) for submitting this information about Dave. If you know of an alumni that is doing something a little out of the ordinary, please send us the story. We would like to include a "Brothers-In-Motion" article in each alumni newsletter. Congratulations on the Following Announcements Engagements / Marriages Todd Speer ('90) & Allison Fisher
Kurt Carpenter ('94) & Jill Ruckman, 8/00 Family Additions David ('88) & Julie Tallant Alumni Tailgate at North Texas Game Speaking of alumni, a fair sized group of us sweated
our arses off in support of Baylor, in their sound trouncing of UNT.
Steele even had Cicero take a knee, to run out the final minutes of the
clock! Scott Morris ('87) graciously provided his smoker on wheels,
and cool beverage, to complement the victory. Thanks for the mention
Jonsey, my liver is not what it used to be, so some "family"
oriented events sound good to me. (I'll still woop your butt at billiards
though) Baylor football may be a tough sell for a rallying point, but the
tailgate is definitely a worthwhile event. Bring on Minnesota! |
WWW.SIGEPBAYLOR.COM Spring Alumni Golf Tournament It [Alumni Golf
Tournament] was a fun weekend for us to let our hair down (what's left of it
for some of us)... and to meet some new bubbas and mix it up with the old
bubbas. Again, to all the brothers who made the weekend happen - you did a
very good job! I just wanted to take a moment to congratulate and thank the active chapter on a job very well done on the golf tournament and festivities. The meal was fine, the golf started on time and went smoothly (not necessarily my golf game but the overall flow went smoothly), and the party was a blast. A little credit should go to the Alumni turnout. Part of what made the party so fun was being able to talk (if you call the drunken slurring I was throwing down at 1:00a.m. talking) with guys 10 years older and guys 10 younger than me. Speaking of 10 years younger... I am particularly interested in hearing a cyber-gavel story from Beam from that night. Special thanks to Big Bucks Monroe for picking up a tab anytime he could get near one. If NGLD takes another turn up, he might foot the bill to have Pearl Jam play at Homecoming.
I hope the turnout stays like that for Homecoming and other future events. If you are in the DFW area in two weeks, come out to Tri-State and watch a group of old spares try to recapture the lightning in a bottle we had last year. Through my drunken fog from Saturday night, I vaguely remember getting the great David King to play shortstop if he can get connubial permission. Anyway, thanks again. Hey Morris, you made a good point at George's. If Williams moved to
Portland for such a great gig, how can Lynn make it from Boston and I make
it from Chicago, while he whines about plane fare after saying he was coming
a month ago?
Sig Eps, Thanks
for the great tournament and a great time. (The BBQ pretty much sucked,
but that's ok).I
enjoyed the after party at a Sig Ep house.
It was great to see that we still had a good scene working. I was
proud to be an Alum. |
