FIRST ANNUAL JONATHAN DECHERD MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

Gentlemen:

I am pleased to announce that we are organizing the First Annual Jonathan Decherd Golf Tournament at Bridlewood Golf Course in Flower Mound, Texas.  David King ('82) and I are setting things up for the tournament. We would like to use proceeds from the tournament to start an education fund for JD and Kim's two daughters. The particulars are as follows:

Date: Sunday, November 5, 2000
Time:  1:30 p.m. (shotgun start)
Type: Four Man Scramble
Place:  Bridlewood Golf Club
Flower Mound, Texas
Cost: $125 per person
($500 per team)
Includes a portion for the fund.
Sign Up Deadline:
Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2000.
We must have you signed up and paid.

Send your sign up form and fees to David King as follows:

David King
2212 Peninsula Dr.
Flower Mound, Texas 75028
(972) 355-6290 Home
(972) 393-3311 Work

If you don't have a whole team to play with, we will place you on one. Prizes will be awarded and Mulligan's available for purchase (specifics to come later).  There will be a casual cocktail party/reception at our house, which is on the course, the night before with some sort of presentation honoring JD.

King and I would like to put together a slide show type of thing, so please begin assembling your pictures of JD (old and recent) and place your name on the back of them and send them to my address:

 Matt Anthony
 4217 Crown Knoll Circle
 Flower Mound, Texas 75028
(972) 355-1772 Home
(972) 870-9898 Work

All pictures will be returned.  I would suggest you pick your best 10 or 15 pics, so that we aren't bombarded with thousands of them. Also, this allows everyone to be an equal part.  Please get right on this as it will take time to prepare.  I would suggest that all pics be sent to us by the end of this month, September 30, 2000.  This way we can all be a part of the tribute to JD.

Finally, we are counting on all of you to spread this word and get people on board.  Please forward this e-mail with the attachment to anyone you can.  We have a short fuse and trying to create a mailing list would be rather cumbersome. Obviously this is a great cause and our chance to show how much we truly loved and appreciated JD.  It will be a living testament to his daughters of the kind of person their dad was.  Let's get the word out, the more the merrier!!!! In the words of Pastor Jim at JD's funeral, "don't let the story end
here."

Your Brother,
Matt Anthony ('83)

Last year Eric Fisher ('81) started an annual Fall Golf Tournament event that was outside the usual Homecoming Activities.  The alumni board wants to encourage this annual event for the fall season as a means to try and raise some money for the chapters scholarship fund, etc.  Special thanks to Eric Fisher for all of his hard work which resulting in almost $500 for the Winn-Centennial Fund last year.

This year, we are not going to have the alumni board sponsored fall tournament in hopes this will help the turnout for JDs tournament.  We'd rather not have the two tournaments compete for participants.

We would like to encourage all alumni and actives to attend this event. Our brotherhood extends beyond simply the individuals we spent time on campus with during our undergraduate years.

Alumni Board, HFF
