PresidentThe Spring 2000 semester is an exciting time to be a SigEp. Our dramatic increase in manpower over the last two spring semesters has chapter morale at its highest point in the last few years. These great men have brought pride to Sigma Phi Epsilon through an increase in academics, intramurals, and sorority relations. Congratulations are due to Israel Garcia, V.P. of Recruitment, for bringing twenty-one outstanding men to our fraternity. SigEp is on the rise. Relations with Jerry at the ranch are at an all time high, we have six mixers scheduled for this semester alone, and if recruitment trends continue we will be well over a hundred-man chapter by Spring 2002. I hope that as alumni you will help us grow as a chapter. We have an alumni golf tournament scheduled for March 25th at the Heather Run course, and a SigEp tri-state softball tournament on April 8th in Arlington. These events always see a large alumni turnout, and are a great time for us to get together. I encourage you to become more involved with Tx. Rho. Alumni involvement is essential to the success of our chapter. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions do not hesitate to contact me. Connor Sheehan |

The Spring 00 pledge class began their pledgeship into our fraternity in early February. Their pledge trainer is senior, Cody Blackburn. As always the main goal of the pledge program is brotherhood. Cody and I have created numerous projects that we believe will help the pledges attain brotherly love. We also stress the importance of respect for the members, and SigEp as a whole. In order to attain these goals it is necessary to create a pledge program that has structure. The program has assistants for every aspect of the pledge period. The assistants are Tim Hunter, Greg Leflar, Anthony Chiniara, Kyle Herring (service), Eric Hurt (ranch), Zach Armstrong (pledge project), Jeff Beck and Clint Cottle (study hall). Along with service, the pledges have been actively participating in mixers and fraternity functions. They are also planning on doing a ropes course and a fundraiser for the fraternity. The Spring 00 pledge class was the largest to be taken at Baylor this year. They exceed the +5 recruitment challenge set by nationals. All of you should be proud of this pledge class because of its recruitment and demeanor. Michael Cole |
RanchAs SigEp ranch foreman it gives me great pride pleasure to announce that the chapter has been very active at the ranch this year. Members meet at the ranch every Tuesday, and perform a series of chores ranging from clearing brush in the back to keeping the front looking respectable. Jerry has expressed sincere gratitude for our efforts and still allows us to fish and hold social activities out there. It is obvious to me that the ranch is our biggest asset. As a chapter we are doing our best to continue to uphold the traditions of hard work and brotherhood that would have made Aunt Helon and Uncle Barry proud. Eric Hurt |
ServiceAs Texas Rho moves into the Spring 2000 semester the service program continues to hold strong. SigEp currently holds a substantial lead over all other Baylor fraternities in number of service hours. With increased manpower provided by our strong pledge class, the service program can grow. We are currently working along side the Waco Boys and Girls Club to better the community. We hope to see further success in this increasingly integral sector of fraternity life. Kyle Herring and Jeff Beck IntramuralsSigEp continues to uphold the importance of intramurals. As our numbers continue to grow we constantly add depth to our intramural standing. Right now we are running in the middle of the pack. However, through increased participation and three dedicated intramural chairmen our rank is increasing. We made playoffs in almost every sport and continue to employ our sneak tactic of using our arsenal of coordinated third team players to dominate the fat bracket. We are preparing for the rest of the Spring semester to finish in the top five on campus. Chad Brooks (254)

Attention Alumni!1. Alumni Events:The Alumni golf tournament will be held at Heather Run scheduled for Saturday, March 25th at 1:00 sharp. Entry fee is $60 per person and we would like to have the money and registration information of teams in by March 15th for planning purposes (how much food to order, how many people are playing, and etc). Food will be catered by Viteks Bar-B-Que and served at 11:30AM. We want everyone to come out and have a great time. Last year we were able to deposit $755 of the proceeds to the National Foundation to fund scholarships associated with TX Rho. This year we want to beat that number and we can only do youre your participation and support. Please contact Chris Knudsen for further information regarding teams or any other details not listed at 254-753-4198 or Christopher_Knudsen@baylor.edu. Tri-state softball tourney will be held in Arlington, TX on April 8-9th. For more details please contact Chad Brooks at 254-757-1369 or Chad_Brooks@baylor.edu. 2. Voluntary Alumni Dues:Your days as an undergraduate of Baylor University may be past but that doesnt mean that your fraternal organization is in the past too! The
purpose of a voluntary alumni dues program is to secure the necessary financial support to
provide a continuing alumni program of promoting and maintaining contact with and between
alumni brothers. The cornerstone of this
program will be a regularly published newsletter which will strive to keep alumni informed
about their |
chapter and their alumni brothers, to secure alumni support for worthy chapter projects, to encourage alumni attendance at alumni events, to obtain rush recommendations, and to provide the basis of promoting Sigma Phi Epsilon Texas Rho as a lifetime experience. For example, some of the money that is controlled by the Alumni Board was used to repair the SigEp Pit that McSpadden donated to the chapter. Bottom line is this, with a cumulatively small yearly donation to the chapter of $25 or more could mean a lot to everyone associated with Texas Rho. 3. Recruitment:As
you already know, manpower is very essential to the success of a fraternal 4. Chapter Mail Box:Sigma Phi Epsilon 5. Update Alumni Personal Information:http://www.sigepbaylor.com/pages/profileform.htm |
